Current Internship Opportunities:


Graphic Design Internship

Majors: Graphic Design, Web Design, Marketing

Duration: Semester or Full Year. Part Time (15-20) or Full Time (35-40).

 

Join a cause-driven organization and help make a positive impact in our community as the YMCA Graphic Design Intern. Responsibilities include creating digital and print ads, large print posters, interior signage, social media graphics, website graphics, posters/flyers for all Y departments and more. A focus of the content created will be impact/story driven, helping our community reach their health and wellness goals.

 

Candidates should have a background in Graphic Design, including experience with the Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign.

 

This is an unpaid internship with flexible working hours, potentially working some weekend events. Start date will vary based on semester and can be a part-time or full-time internship that is a semester or full year in length. Our Marketing Department oversees three Y facilities, 23,000 Y members and 600+ employees.

 

Human Resources Internship

The La Crosse Area Family YMCA is currently looking for a Human Resources Intern to assist with the Human Resources Department. Candidates will gain experience working for a non-profit organization and learning the day to day duties within an HR department. We will work together to help the candidate get the experience they need within their field. Candidates must be going to school for Human Resources or a related field, have database management, record keeping, and Microsoft Office experience. Candidates must have excellent communication skills. This is an unpaid internship but you will gain work and leadership experience. Information Technology Internship

Majors: IT-Computer Support, IT-Network Systems, IT-Database  Duration: Semester or Full Year. Part Time (12-20hrs).

Join a cause-driven organization and help make a positive impact in our community as the YMCA IT Intern. Responsibilities include assisting with break/fix resolution, new computer deployment, new user setup, imaging, network infrastructure install, end user training, AV equipment support, and phone system changes for all Y departments and more. Our IT Department oversees three Y facilities and 600+ employees. You will gain experience in all areas of Information Technology.Candidates should have a background in Information Technology, be ready to impact the community, and be willing to learn.

This is an unpaid internship with flexible working hours during normal business hours. Start date will vary based on semester and can be a part-time internship that is a semester or full year in length. Marketing & Social Media Internship

The Y is looking for a cause-driven leader with a passion to serve others, better the community and make a positive impact. If you feel compelled to give back and support others, consider joining our Marketing & Communication team! Responsibilities include assisting the La Crosse Area Family YMCA in communicating important events and information to members via a monthly eNewsletter, updating content on the Y’s website, creating posters and flyers using Microsoft Publisher and assisting Y Directors with their marketing needs. Managing the social media pages and developing additional pages on some of the newest platforms. This is an unpaid internship with flexible working hours, potentially working some weekend events. Start date will vary based on semester and can be a part-time or full-time internship that can be a semester or full year in length. Community Wellness Internship
The Community Wellness Intern will be responsible for daily tasks within the Community Wellness Department, along with developing and implementing workplace wellness programming, tailoring health education communication to specific audiences and facilitating discussions around wellness best practices. The intern will also be responsible for program marketing of current programs along with new programs. The Community Wellness Intern will gain skills in leadership; communication both oral and written; group facilitation, program development and assessment, and organizational skills. Contact: Martina Mellang at mmellang@laxymca.org or (608) 519-5473.

Gymnastics Internship
The Y is looking for a friendly, motivated and organized intern for the summer to assist with and learn about the Y's Gymnastics program. You will work along side our Gymnastics Program Director to help ensure that programs are running smoothly and assist with any meets or events the gymanstics team has. Teen Center Internship
Engage youth while attending drop-in hours, providing outreach, tutoring, teaching specific
skills such as art or music lessons, and/or other special projects as arranged. Additional

School Age Intern
At the Y we strengthen community through youth development because we believe that a community is stronger when all children can discover and achieve healthy lifestyles. In our school age program you will be part of a nurturing and caring staff team that is there to help youth learn, grow, and thrive in a healthy environment by providing physical activity opportunities and healthy eating options. As the school age intern you will act as the program lead responsible for facilitating the implementation of the daily agenda for all Kids Day Off, Hamilton Intersession, and Early Release Days. Responsibilities will include developing and implementing a detailed program schedule for these programs which will include acquiring and organizing all materials necessary for the successful operation of all program dates. Candidates should be going to school for education, rec. management or a related field. Other requirements include excellent communication, experience with program development or event planning, knowledge of school age children’s development and a valid driver’s license. Social Media Intern 
The Social Media Intern is responsible for assisting the La Crosse Area Family YMCA in managing its social media pages and for developing additional pages on some of the newest platforms. The goal of this position will be to increase the organization’s online presence, reach a larger audience, gather information and increase awareness. Additionally, the intern’s responsibilities would include research of social network marketing trends, report of these findings and implementation of relevant strategies.  The Social Media Intern will report to the Director of Program Operations and will work with other staff as needed.  Projects and duties include: Research social networking strategies and trends;  gather, post and manage content for current association pages on Facebook and Twitter regarding organization programming; develop and deliver educational training for program staff on how to access and use association social media pages to enhance their programs. Candidates should have a strong understanding of social media and social networking with the ability to efficiently research trends and best practices; be creative and innovative with the ability to understand the role of social networking in the non profit sector, and create content in the appropriate voice for the organization; have good attention to detail; excellent written communication skills with the ability to provide written reports as needed. This is a non paid internship with flexible working hours. Start date will vary based on semester. Some of the work can be done remotely. If interested please complete an Internship Application.

 

Community/Special Event Intern
The Community/Special Event Intern shall be responsible for the delivery and execution of event management, marketing and providing excellent service to for our members, volunteers, sponsors and participants. Daily tasks and responsibilities include designing posters & flyers, creating bulletin boards, sending emails to participants, updating and maintain website/registration site, recruit volunteers and analyze post-event satisfaction surveys. The Community/Special Events Intern will understand character development as the chief mission of the YMCA and personally exhibit a commitment to the goal in all YMCA operations. Youth Engagement Intern 
The Youth Engagement Intern will be working in collaboration with the Youth Engagement Director in facilitating creative programming for weeknight evenings at the La-Crosse YMCA. Responsibilities will also include creating behavioral goals with students attending Youth Engagement along with providing support and guidance to youth and teens. Intern should be going to school for psychology/education/communication studies. Other requirements include excellent communication, experience with program development or event planning, and knowledge and/or interest working with youth and teenage population. Payroll Internship

The La Crosse Area Family YMCA is currently looking for a payroll intern to assist our payroll specialist. Candidates will gain experience working for a non-profit organization and learn the day-to-day duties within a payroll & business office department. We will work together to help the candidate get the experience they need within their field. Candidates must be going to school for Human Resources, Accounting or a related field, have database management, record keeping, and Microsoft Office experience. Candidates must have excellent communication skills and a high level of confidentiality. This is an unpaid internship but you will gain work and leadership experience. Youth Sports, Dance, Gymnastics, Aquatics, Swim Team
Majors: Recreation Management & Arts


Youth Sports Intern
Coordinate the Spring 3-on-3 Basketball Classic and assist the Youth & Family Director
with many different youth sports programs. Background in recreation and coaching
experience preferred.

Assist the Youth & Family Director with program areas such as Friday Night Live, Prime
Time Center, Youth Sports programs, etc. Background in recreation and coaching

Aquatics Intern
Assist the Aquatic Directors at either Y location in the administration of American Red
Cross courses. Opportunities also exist for assisting Y staff in teaching swimming lessons.

Arts & Humanities Intern
Assist the Arts & Humanities Director with dance, martial arts, and North Y gymnastics
programs including organization of special events and performances, program statistics,

Wellness Center & Fitness
Major: Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Kinesiology, or related health degree

Wellness Center Intern

The Wellness Center Intern will be responsible for daily administrative tasks within the Wellness Center, along with teaching exercise fundamentals to various age populations in a classroom format. The intern will also be responsible for program marketing of current programs along with new programs. The Wellness Center Intern will gain skills in leadership; communication both oral and written; organizational skills; and exercise prescription and testing. Fitness Intern

The Fitness Intern will be responsible for daily administrative tasks within the fitness departments, working alongside the fitness directors. Assist with program marketing of current classes. The fitness intern will gain skills in leadership: communication both oral and written, organizational skills. Child Care, School Age Program, Child Watch
Major: Education

School Age Program Intern

Assist the School Age Program Directors in developing parent communications; planning and implementing physical activity ideas and various arts and humanities into daily programs. Contact: Nate Torres at ntorres@laxymca.org or at (608) 519-5495.


Research and Evaluation Intern

In collaboration with the Director of Program Operations and Program Leadership, assist with developing, updating and enhancing programmatic evaluations. The research and evaluation intern will assess the organizations current methods of evaluation and research. Complete an internship application.
