CHANGES FOR 2017
Based on survey responses and input from committee members and past Got Energy Triathlon participants, we have decided to bring the tri back for another year with the changes outlined below.
CHANGE: In 2017 only the sprint distance will be offered
DETAILS: There will no longer be an intermediate distance. The tri will feature individual sprint divisions with age group awards and relay divisions. The distance for the tri will be swim 1/4mile, Bike 17 miles, and run 3.1 miles.
WHY : The intermediate division has seen the biggest decrease in participants in the past years. The switch to sprint will create more competition and energy throughout the race. In addition, it will make the race more efficient and organized as we will have 1 start time and 1 award ceremony for all athletes.
CHANGE: Date and time change
DETAILS: This year's race will be on Sunday June 25th, and will now begin at 8:00am.
WHY THE CHANGE WAS MADE: The tri was pushed back a week later then usual to avoid conflicting with Father's day and other race events in the area. The later start will make it easier for spectators and volunteers to attend the race.
CHANGE: Return to old bike course
WHY: Construction issues are now resolved
CHANGE: Finisher & Age Group Awards
DETAILS: Finisher medals will be given to all athletes. Age group awards will be pint glasses for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each division.
WHY THE CHANGE WAS MADE: This change was made based on feedback from survey responses. In addition, people requested that the awards be consistent each year.
CHANGE: Extra additions/perks included in registration
DETAILS: Registration will now include a meal at the finish line. Registration will also include athlete goodie bags with Swim Caps, Gu packets, and other promotional items from our sponsors.
WHY: These changes were suggested to help enhance the race experience for veteran athletes as well as first timers.
CHANGE: Pledging levels and awards
DETAILS: All pledges raised go toward the Y's Annual Campaign helping us to provide financial assistance to members in the community and to fund several Y programs such as LIVESTRONG at the Y, the Community Teen center and more
Raise $50 and receive a YMCA water bottle
Raise $75 and receive a reflective running band
Raise $100 and receive a quarter zip-fleece pullover
WHY THE CHANGE WAS MADE: Pledge and donation dollars are an essential part of the Y's annual fundraising efforts and will help us to continue to strengthen our community.
