Couch to 5K
WE ARE HERE FOR YOU
Here at the Y, we encourage everyone to live healthy, active lifestyles. That's why we're providing you the opportunity to build your body and develop healthy habits with the Couch to 5K program.
Couch to 5Kers will begin walking and jogging, building up endurance and stamina to comfortably running a 5K. This program is designed for those who are less experienced and would like some extra motivation and guidance when training. The Couch to 5K program is a great way to help you achieve your goal of running or jogging a 5K.
MEET YOUR 2017
COUCH TO 5K INSTRUCTOR:
Karen has been working at the La Crosse Area Family YMCA since April of 2017. At the Y she teaches group fitness classes such as Zumba, Pilates, Barre Blend, and Shallow Water Exercise classes. She also works at the front desk as a part of the Member Services Team.
Karen's parents were her biggest influencers when it came to running. When she was younger she used to bike alongside them and hand them water and granola bars while they would be training for marathons. When she was about 10 years old she began running 5K's with her parents. As she got older she continues particiating in 5K's and has even ran a half marathon. She is also currently training to participate in the Maple Leaf Half Marathon this coming September.
When asked about her strategies and running routines she responded, "I wake up and go for my runs right away in the morning, before I do anything else. it is a great way to greet the world and I alsways feel really accomplished after morning runs. [I also] really enjoy being out in nature and love observing things around me." For Karen, running is alao a great way for her to relax.
Karen is very excited to be the instructor for the Couch to 5K program this year. She is looking forward to sharing her love of running with others and helping them reach their goals for running.
