At the YMCA, your time and talent go a long way. The YMCA believes that an on-the-job experience will benefit the student, the community, and the YMCA. Students who are interviewed and selected for an internship placement at the YMCA may be expected to accomplish specific tasks during their internships; these tasks are their primary responsibility. Teen
Center Intern (2 positions) This
position is located at the YMCA Teen Center, 137 S. 11th St in La
Crosse. Primary duties include assisting with Teen Center activities such as
engaging youth while attending drop-in hours, providing outreach, tutoring,
teaching specific skills such as art or music lessons, and/or other special
projects as arranged). Specific duties
will include planning, advertising and leading activities and engaging youth
while attending drop-in hours.
Additional duties as determined by supervisor and supervisee.
Hours will
be determined in agreement with supervisor and supervisee and will vary
depending on project and need. An average commitment of 5-10 hours weekly over
the course of 3 months is the minimum requirement; more hours can be arranged
as needed.
Skills & Qualifications: Candidates for this position must have
excellent communication skills, flexibility, a desire to work with adolescents,
and be available for regular training and supervision tailored to individual
needs. Any documentation of hours or other requirements to fulfill class credit
must be communicated in advance to the Supervisor. Position may be terminated
if candidate demonstrates behavior incongruent with Teen Center mission or
which jeopardizes the health or safety of any individuals.

Arts & Humanities
Intern Responsibilities include assisting Arts & Humanities
Director with planning and organizing fall events including national YMCA Arts
& Humanities week events and the holiday dance recital. Attend staff
meetings and training sessions and assist with development of new Arts &
Humanities programming. Assist with day to day department details including
inventory/ordering, compiling statistics, parent communication, etc. Current
program areas include dance, martial arts, North gymnastics program, fine arts,

Health & Wellness Intern (2-4 openings) The La Crosse Area Family YMCA is currently seeking an intern for their Health & Wellness Departments. Opportunities include wellness center floor supervisor, group fitness instruction opportunities, personal training opportunities, administrative duties, organizing and running fitness assessments, special projects, opportunities to work with Active Older Adult, Teen and Youth, or Pre/postnatal exercise programs, able to offer other experience outside of Health and Wellness department such as aquatics, and youth sports. Qualified applicants should be in their senior year or completed with all course work in a degree in Fitness/Sport Management/Community Health or related field; hold work experience in fitness, wellness, exercise and sport science, or sport management; CPR/AED and First Aid Certified; group fitness teaching experience; knowledge with Microsoft Office; ability to build relationships and work easily with members, staff, and community; able to present self to individuals as well as large groups of people; good organizational skills, positive attitude and self motivated.
