Age Policy Update

Posted by YMCA on November 28, 2018

Effective January 1st

To ensure we are offering the best support to youth in our community, we have determined a need to re-evaluate our minimum age policy and explore ways in which our Y staff can work with parents and guardians to help shape the values and behaviors of youth while they participate at the Y.

Youth Ages 0-6

Must be directly supervised by someone who is 15+ years of age or be in Y Child Watch or in another supervised program.

Youth Ages 7-8

Must have a parent/guardian who is 15+ years old in the building at all times unless participating in a supervised program.

Youth Ages 9+

Are allowed to be in the building without a parent/guardian. Areas include the Prime Time Center, Gym, Pool, Lobby or Family Fun Center.

This policy change was recommended by our insurance company, our Safety and Risk Management Committee, and Y staff members. We are confident this will allow us to work together to ensure all youth can learn, grow and thrive at the Y.
