Openings available at the R.W. Houser Family YMCA in Onalaska and the Dahl Family YMCA in La Crosse, WI. The available hours to work are listed below:

  • Monday through Friday:  7:50 am – 12:00 pm OR 3:50 pm – 7:00 pm

Primary Duties:

  • Promote youth development through a hands-on learning environment
  • Provide children with opportunities to develop early language and motor skills through age-appropriate play and activities
  • Build relationships with families and the staff team

Key Qualifications:

  • Genuine interest and appreciation for young children.
  • At least 1 year of past experience working with children infant to age 7.
  • Perform first aid functions when necessary according to infant/child procedures.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from participants, members, staff, administration, or the general public.   

Are you an experienced dance teacher who enjoys sharing your passion for dance with others? Join the Y staff team as a dance instructor.

These are part-time positions available at both the Dahl Family YMCA in La Crosse and the R.W. Houser Family YMCA in Onalaska. There are opportunities to work 3-10 hours per week; morning, evening, & weekend.

Do you enjoy cooking and preparing food for others and working in a positive environment? The Y’s childcare center is looking for a part-time Food Service Coordinator to help keep our children energized by feeding them nutritional food throughout their day at the Y’s childcare center. This position is Mon. – Fri. working 15-20 hours per week. Free Y membership included. 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare weekly snack and milk orders
  • Keep kitchen clean
  • Maintain temperature logs for the milk cooler, refrigerator, and freezer
  • Wash dishes
  • Prep food, deliver food to classrooms and clean up
  • Light laundry

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Annually complete at least 4 hours of training in kitchen sanitation, food handling, and nutrition

Now seeking knowledgeable, caring, energetic, positive, friendly, creative, compassionate, nurturing, organized, and community-minded gymnastics coaches to teach in our state-of-the-art facility. 

Duties:

  • Understanding and supporting our cause
  • Planning, spotting, and teaching gymnastics classes pre-school through pre-team
  • Assessing the progress of students
  • Interacting and communicating with participant parents
  • Assisting with gymnastics special events and other related duties
  • Instructors will develop relationship building, teaching, coaching, class management, and leadership skills

  • Ensures Y facility and property is secure during shift and reports incidents and hazardous conditions to Environmental Technician Director and Director of Facilities

Qualifications: 

  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals and their safe, efficient use

Join our team of lifeguards and swim instructors to maintain the health and safety of all participants, provide high-quality programming, while building relationships with members and program participants. 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain health and safety of all participants
  • Enforce rules and expectations
  • Constant vigilance of pool activities
  • Conduct YMCA Learn-to-Swim lessons
  • Must enjoy working around children and adults of all ages

We are looking for energetic individuals who are seeking a fun opportunity creating a friendly, helpful and positive atmosphere for anyone visiting or calling the Y, giving tours of the facility, processing memberships, and registrations and addressing any member and guest concerns.

Do you have a passion for music? Help our members develop creative expression through music by joining the Y’s Arts and Humanities Team as a Piano, Voice or Guitar teacher.  These are part-time positions working 2-8 hours per week and have positions available at both Y locations.

This is a part-time position with openings at the La Crosse and Onalaska branches and is open to female and male trainers. 

Personal trainers are responsible for the development and incorporation of training programs for members of the Y. The trainer provides accurate fitness information, plans effective programs, and addresses participant’s questions. Personal trainers possess the ability to motivate participants at all skill and fitness levels, along with the ability to identify incorrect lifting techniques and how to correct the individual. The trainer is also responsible for all scheduling of clients and tracking accurate records of client’s attendance and payment history.

Key Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills
  • National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) nationally recognized Personal Training Certification such as NSCA, ACSM, NASM or ACE
  • Adult and child CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
  • YMCA Fitness Assessment Certification or experience in this area is a plus
  • Degree in exercise science, fitness, or related field is preferred

  • Responsible for assuring high standards of program quality and safety in accordance with YMCA safety and risk management policies and state childcare licensing regulations and requirements.

  • Take initiative in facilitating engaging group activities such as arts and crafts, STEM, games, sports, etc.

Qualifications: Education, Training & Work Experience

  • 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR certification within 3 months of hire date.

  • Human relation skills with the ability to relate to staff, volunteers, children, parents, and community members.
  • Knowledge of school-age children’s development.
  • Experience implementing programming for school-age children.

Hours and Locations:

  • Positions begin in September, Monday-Friday up to 25 hours a week.
  • Can work two shifts a day: 6:10-8:10 a.m. and 3:00-6:00 p.m. 
  • School Age Program Leaders will work on-site at elementary schools in the La Crosse, Onalaska, and Holmen areas.

Join the Y as a full-time AmeriCorps as our Volunteer Coordinator! You will be assisting the Y in our overall coordination of volunteer opportunities at the Y. 
 
Responsibilities: 
Recruit, hire, and train volunteers for identified departments
Motivate, engage, and coach volunteers
Develop a list of annual volunteer projects for volunteer groups
Prepare and administer all volunteer policies, forms and tracking requirements

Make a difference in our community by building relationships with families of all abilities. The La Crosse Area Family YMCA is currently hiring a Recreation Therapist to lead and supervise our inclusion and adaptive programs that are designed to support individuals with disabilities in our community. These adaptive programs include Miracle League Baseball, soccer, basketball, fitness, swimming, dance, summer camp, and gymnastics. This is a full-time exempt position working 40+ hours per week, includes a benefits package that includes a free family Y membership.
