Our youth sports coaches impact participants through character development and positive competition. Our Y is always looking for individuals to help coach and referee in all of our different youth sports programs throughout the year. We are currently seeking for summer help as we transition into the new season.

These positions are needed for the Dahl Family YMCA and R.W. Houser Family YMCA in La Crosse, Onalaska and Holmen programs. Some of these programs may be held off-site.

YOUTH SPORT COACHES NEEDED:

  • Basketball

Candidates should be enthusiastic, motivating, and able to relate well to young children. Some knowledge and experience playing organized sports is beneficial, specifically baseball. These are part-time positions working 3-20 hours per week.

HOURS:

  • Weekdays 4:00-8:00pm and Saturdays 8:00am-2:00pm

Our gym monitors are on duty during our busiest hours to ensure our members have a safe space to be active in our gymnasiums.

A YMCA Environmental Technician will be responsible in helping to maintain a clean facility and assisting with program set up and take down. This is an hourly part-time position working 20-28 hours a week, mostly evenings and weekends as needed. One opening at the Dahl Y in La Crosse and the Houser Y in Onalaska.

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform housekeeping duties as assigned to ensure cleanliness of the facility
  • Collect, wash and dry towels used by members for cleaning exercise equipment
  • Responsible for closing the building and cleaning assignments after hours
  • Perform excellent service to all members, staff, volunteers and guests
  • Ensures Y facility and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to Environmental Technician Director and Director of Facilities

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals and their safe, efficient use
  • Ability to address and make solid decisions in emergency situations
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals and other documents

Shifts

  • Monday-Friday 5-10 pm with weekend rotation

This is a part-time hourly position working Monday – Friday.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain health and safety of all participants
  • Enforce rules and expectations
  • Constant vigilance of pool activities
  • Conduct YMCA Learn-to-Swim lessons
  • Must enjoy working around children and adults of all ages

Key Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 15 years old
  • American Red Cross (or equivalent)
    • Lifeguard Certification (for lifeguards only)

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to teach a variety of class types including Strength Training, Cycling (Spinning), Cardio Kickboxing, Total Body (Bootcamp), Zumba, Water Exercise, Barre, Pilates and Yoga.  These are part time positions working 2-10 hours per week depending on availability; hours available include afternoon, evening, and weekends.

The Youth & Member Services Lead shall be responsible for creating a friendly, helpful, positive atmosphere at the initial contact point for anyone entering or calling the facility. This is an
hourly positon working Monday – Friday 12:00 pm-8:30 pm with weekend rotation at the Dahl Branch in La Crosse.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide building supervision in the weekday evening hours while providing guidance
    and consistency for member services staff and youth members.
  • Act as building supervisor during closing shifts.
  • Act as lead Member Services Representative in all situations
  • Answers questions members have and/or direct them to the correct person.
  • Provide tours of the facility to prospective members using Listen First skills and
    Cause-Driven Language.
  • Checks everyone’s membership card and/or day pass, greeting members by name.
  • Provide information on available programs, events, schedules to members and staff.
  • Participation in the hiring, supervision, scheduling, training, and development of
    member services staff with a youth experience focus.
  • Assist in communication with families of youth whose behaviors are not consistent
    with the Y values and code of conduct.
  • Meet with youth and their families when appropriate to determine youth behavior
    plans.

Qualifications:

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • 3 years of experience in a customer service-oriented position
  • Knowledge and experience with youth and adolescent development

This is a part-time position available at our La Crosse Dahl YMCA.

Personal trainers are responsible for the development and incorporation of training programs for members of the Y. The trainer provides accurate fitness information, plans effective programs, and addresses participant’s questions. Personal trainers’ possess the ability to motivate participants at all skill and fitness levels, along with the ability to identify incorrect lifting techniques and how to correct the individual. The trainer is also responsible for all scheduling of clients and tracking accurate records of client’s attendance and payment history.

Key Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills
  • National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) nationally recognized Personal Training Certification such as NSCA, ACSM, NASM or ACE

Preschool instructors help instruct physical and non-physical classes including arts & crafts, gym, music, and activity programs for preschool children. Responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, preparing craft projects, provide structured, safe, and welcoming environment for children and families.

Candidates must be creative, have energy and enthusiasm to work with children and the ability to understand and relate to the developmental stages of children.
