WHY?
Completing a placeholder registration will provide each family an opportunity to indicate an interest in Summer Care 2022. Each Placeholder request will be time and date stamped as it is submitted and you will receive an immediate emailed confirmation that your request was received from our registration system. (Only 1 placeholder is required per family)
All requests for care will be processed in order of this timestamp. It is suggested that you complete your placeholder as close to the open date and time for better enrollment options.
WHAT’S NEXT?
Any new family who completed a placeholder registration will receive an email from [email protected] on Wednesday, March 16, 2022. This email will include a link to the official registration forms that will be required to be completed electronically for each child by Friday, March 25, 2022.
DO I HAVE CARE?
Submitted registration paperwork will begin to be processed/waitlisted in the order of placeholder timestamp beginning as early as Monday, March 28th. Families will be notified with confirmation of care/waitlist via email at the time the registration is complete. New families should receive a confirmation email by Friday, April 29, 2022.

Families interested in enrolling in Summer 2022 School Age Care or Adventure Weeks are encouraged to complete a Placeholder Registration to request consideration for care spots. Your child does not need to be enrolled in the School District during the school year to attend summer care programming.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- All Summer care deposits ($10.00 per week per child) will be due/drafted at the time your child’s care registration is processed. These deposits will be non-refundable once the registration is complete.
- All changes/cancellations in care must be submitted in writing via email to [email protected] at least 2 weeks prior to the Monday of the week you need to change or cancel to not be billed for the remaining weekly fee. Cancellations placed via phone will not be accepted as valid cancellations.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
The Y will continue providing state-licensed childcare in our best effort to meet community needs. Now, maybe more than ever, it is necessary to give kids a place to be kids and families peace of mind that their child is well cared for as we all continue to bounce back from incredibly stressful times for everyone.
The Y’s School Age Childcare programs are eligible for Flexible Pricing options through the Y and we continue to accept Wisconsin Shares Childcare Subsidy payments. Adventure weeks do NOT qualify for Wisconsin Shares Childcare Subsidy payments.
The Y always makes safety our priority. All School Age Care programming operates to meet or exceed the WI DCF licensing requirements, DHS & La Crosse County Health Department guidelines, and in cooperation with local school district protocols. School Age Care programming will follow COVID-19 safety precautions when they are mandated by the schools and districts we are offering programming through.
- Frequent and regular hand washing and disinfecting of shared/high-touch areas as well as food service areas is always practiced.
NO-AD 30 SPF sunscreen is provided for all participants and is applied prior to all outdoor activities and reapplied according to product instructions. Any sunscreen provided by families must be properly labeled and will be stored on site. Participants in Adventure Weeks may want to send child with an insect repellant of their choice.

A general day in the Summer School Age program consists of the following activities:
6:15 (Holmen locations only) or 6:30-8:30am Child Arrival-Choice Activities

9:30-11:30am Morning Activities Group Physical Activities and Small Group Arts & Humanities or S.T.E.M. Activities
11:30am-12:30pm Lunch
12:30-3:30pm Afternoon Activities – possible activities include swimming, field trips (at and away from childcare), group physical activities, small groups arts & humanities, and STEM Activities. Access to pools and field trips will be subject to availability and safety of traveling off-site. Updates will be communicated via email closer to start of the summer.

- District Summer School is held for 3 weeks Monday-Thursday. We will not offer care on Friday at Northern Hills during these summer school weeks. Full time AM and/or PM at Northern Hills (no part-time rates available for these weeks)- NH AM/PM care during summer school is only for children registered to attend Onalaska’s summer school; if you are not attending summer school, please do not select this location for those weeks
- Regular FT or PT care at Irving Pertzsch and Eagle Bluff – children registered for Onalaska summer school but attending IP or EB will not receive a discount for attending summer school. Families must contact Onalaska School District transportation to arrange transportation to/from a school age care location
The School Age Care program is excited to offer swim lessons at the Y as part of regular weekly programming again. This important safety skill will be offered at most locations.
Registration for Swim Lessons will be emailed to participants in May after Summer School Age Care locations are verified.
Swim Lessons at the Y will be offered at the Houser Y in Onalaska for the locations listed below. Each lesson is 30 minutes/once a week (no lessons the week of July 4th) for 10 weeks June 8 – August 19.
Summer locations unable to offer 10 weeks of lessons will be discounted at the rates indicated below.

All children should be sent to lessons with goggles if needed and long hair tied back out of their face.
Adventure Weeks
Older School Age kids can enjoy a fun-filled summer with Adventure Weeks! Adventure weeks will be available to children ages 9-13 who want to participate in a specific theme for that week (registration priority will be given to current participants). Children will register for themes they are interested in learning more about and focusing on for a full week, allowing them to take a deeper dive into that area. Children are encouraged to register for weeks they are interested in, you can also request care at a school age location for any weeks that don’t offer a theme your child is interested in.
These weeks are designed to help facilitate more independence, additional social-emotional development opportunities, and provide a positive exposure to a variety of skills and interests. Most weeks will feature a special event to help showcase and celebrate the hard work and development of the kids who participated that week.
Due to the nature of activities offered for Adventure weeks, all participants’ behavior must be able to be redirected quickly. Any participant unable to follow group expectations or is creating an unsafe environment must be picked up immediately and will not be allowed to attend for the remainder of that week.
Location: Pick up and drop off will be at North Woods Elementary School.
Adventure weeks operate 8am-4pm weekdays.
Pricing: Base pricing is listed below. Some weeks include an additional fee per child, that is not available for flexible pricing or multiple child discounts.

Each week/theme has a theme it centers on, but all weeks build on the Y core values of honesty, caring, respect, responsibility as well fostering character development in areas we know create resilience (Emotion Management, Empathy, Building Relationships, Responsibility, Personal Development).
A general description and any additional fee for each theme is provided below: Access locations and activities are subject to availability and safety conditions. Updates will be communicated via email closer to the start of the summer. For any Adventure Weeks that an additional per person fee is indicated, families will receive a credit for that amount if particular events/activities are canceled and cannot be rescheduled that week.
Active Group Games – A week that is focused on games that promote teamwork to achieve success. Participants will explore a wide variety of games focused on teamwork, individual growth and skill development. One day will include a trip to Copeland Park for a Logger’s Game. Participants must have shoes that they are able to run, jump and move comfortably in.
Biking Week – Participants will participate in a lot of bicycling in a variety of settings and areas. The end of the week will include a 10-15 mile bike ride to the Rushford Creamery! Participants must provide a bicycle and appropriately sized helmet.
Choir Singing Week – Singing alone is fun, but singing in a group and creating music with your team is amazing! Showcase your talents in the art of sound. Participants will learn about healthy singing practices while practicing good vocal technique and preparing a few pieces of music to perform for an audience at the end of the week.
Community Connections Week + $16 fee pp – Enjoy local community hidden gems such as Hidden Hills, UWL Adventure Program, Hokah pool, etc. Destinations are subject to change based on availability.
Creative Arts Week 1 + $25 fee pp – Enjoy a week of trying different art mediums; some activities might include pottery, canvas painting, paper mache and more. The week will consist of a trip to All Glazed Up! Have fun displaying your artwork at the end of the week at an art show! Activities are subject to change based on availability.
Creative Arts Week 2 – Enjoy a variety of art forms such as music, martial arts, art, dance, and cooking. Activities are subject to change based on availability.
Dance week – We want anyone who loves to move! It doesn’t matter if this is your first or fifteenth dance class, you’ll learn a dance routine or two and perform for your peers at the end of the week.
Fishing Week + $9 fee pp – Enjoy a week of trying to catch the biggest fish in the tristate area. Enjoy fishing in various fishing holes while practicing different fishing techniques, and a day on the river in a pontoon! Personnel fitted lifevests encouraged, but life-preservers will be available
Helping Hands Week – Enjoy a week full of helping the community in various volunteerism opportunities; some activities might include helping tend a community garden, making items for the local humane society, writing letters to troops and more. Activities are subject to change based on availability.
Hiking Week – Enjoy a full week of being outside hiking in the beautiful area. Scenic hiking areas might include Hixon, Grandad’s bluff and ending the week by visiting Devils Lake. Participants must have shoes that are able to hike multiple miles per day; a hydration backpack is encouraged.
On the Water Week 1 and 2 + $19 fee pp – Enjoy a week on the water with kayaking, pontoon rides, lake days and more! Personal fitted lifevests encouraged, but life-preservers will be available
Pools Week + $16 fee pp – Enjoy a week full of fun in the sun and splashing around; the group will enjoy a day at a Wisconsin Dells waterpark!
Science Week + $13 fee pp – Enjoy a series of science-based activities focused on hands-on learning, outdoor exploration and encourage creativity. One day will include a trip to a local cave!
Sports Week 1 – Enjoy the “sports sampler” where several different traditional sports where you learn the main skills of each sport by running drills and fun games. Sports might include basketball, soccer, kickball, flag football. Sports might change based on availability.
Sports Week 2 + $25 fee pp – Enjoy learning “non-traditional” sports throughout the week such as gymnastics, rock climbing, curling, etc. The week will include a day at the UWL Adventure Program! Sports may change based on availability.
Swimming Week – Enjoy a week in and on the water when you visit community pools with special features and Wazee Lake with an option to snorkel in the clear water. Personal fitted lifevests encouraged, but life-preservers will be made available.
Theatre Week – Enjoy a week of improving or learning your theatre skills! By the end of the week, you will be able to perform to our School Age Care programs!
Variety Week 1 + $8 fee pp – Enjoy a week of trying different interest areas; some activities might include a Logger’s baseball game, gymnastics, hiking, a beach day and arts. Activities are subject to change based on availability.
Variety Week 2 + $16 fee pp – Enjoy a week of trying different interest areas; some activities might include rock climbing, Hidden Hills, a pool day, group activities, etc. Activities are subject to change based on availability.
