What is Before and After School Care?
The Before and After School Program creates a space for social and emotional learning which will have a positive impact on mental health and social skills before and after a regular school day.
Important Information
- Before and After School Care is available to all children ages 5-11; and age 4 at our 4K program locations. Before and After School Care is held in 16 local Elementary Schools in Holmen, La Crosse, Onalaska, and West Salem. Please note that West Salem's program is specific to children enrolled in 4K.
- Before and After School care for 4K programming is available in West Salem, Onalaska, North Woods ( La Crosse), and Northside (La Crosse) for children ages 4-5. ALL Onalaska children will initially be placed on a waitlist at the time of registration due to limited availability. Onalaska families will be notified via email from [email protected] with confirmation of their child's enrollment if moved off the waitlist.
- Before and After School Care is only offered during regular school days excluding staff training days, inclement weather days, or early dismissal days.
- Before and After School Care is licensed/regulated child care with qualified staff trained to provide a fun and safe environment.
- All participants must have an immunization record on file. All 4K participants must also have a Child Health Report on file. The School Age Department will contact families via email that provides instructions for submitting these documents for new participants.
- A $35.00 flat registration fee per household will be due at the time of registration and will be processed with the payment method on file.

Online Registration Process (3 Steps)
- COMPLETE/REVIEW YOUR CHILD'S PROFILE PRIOR TO REGISTRATION
Before and After School Care is a state licensed YMCA program and families must fill out the Child Profile as a part of registration. As the Child Profile contains information required by state licensing, it is lengthy, and therefore we recommend you complete it in advance of registration. We also highly recommend filling out the Child Profile out on a computer.

2. REVIEW OUR YMCA FAMILY HANDBOOK AND PHOTO VIDEO RELEASE.
You will be asked to sign off on these documents when filling out the child profile. These can be located under Quick Links.
3. COMPLETE THE PROGRAM REGISTRATION
The final step for enrolling your child in our Before and After School Program is to complete the online registration! Please review the Online Registration Instructions under Quick Links .
Once your registration is reviewed, you will receive follow up emails from [email protected] and from the program Director to include information about the care start date, billing, and program details.
A $35.00 registration fee will be added to your account after review and billed to the payment method on file.

Registration Fee: A $35.00 flat fee per household will be due at the time of registration.
Monthly Single Child Rates:
Before School Care: $110.00 per child
After School Care: $205.00 per child
Before and After School Care: $315.00 per child
Monthly Multi-Child Rates:
Before School Care: $91.00 per child
After School Care: $172.00 per child
Before and After School Care: $262.00 per child
Monthly fees for this program are due on the 1st of each month of care. Failure to pay fees by the 1st of each month may result in being disenrolled from the program. Fees are established on schedule and not attendance. This is a flat monthly rate with no credit for time off, holidays, vacations, inclement weather, or temporary suspensions.
All cancellation requests must be made two weeks before the 1st of the month of care for any withdrawal from the program or schedule changes. These changes must be submitted via email to [email protected].
The YMCA wants to ensure that no one is turned away from an opportunity to enroll in child care due to an inability to pay. If your family is currently under financial challenges, we encourage you to apply for flexible pricing for programs through the YMCA. The YMCA also accepts WI Shares Subsidy for Childcare for Summer Day Camp. Please check out more information about that program offered by the state of Wisconsin below.
WI SHARES CHILD CARE SUBSIDY PROGRAM: The Wisconsin Shares child care subsidy program invests in eligible working families to help make quality child care more accessible and affordable. How? Kids Day Off programming offers a full day of fun and enrichment on many non-school days while ensuring your child is well cared for by our school-age care professionals. Hours: 6:30 AM - 6:00 PM (6:15 AM Holmen)
Families currently enrolled in the Before and After School program are allowed an opportunity to register for additional days of care on non-school days in your school district. The Kids Day Off program is not available for every non-school day. Due to the limited availability, enrollment for these dates is not a guarantee.
More information for Kids Day Off programming, rates, and registration dates will be communicated via email to all 2026/2027 Before and After School Program families by early August.
