May Mental Health Blog

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.  This year, the Mental Health Coalition of Greater La Crosse, Great Rivers United Way in partnership with the La Crosse Area Family YMCA and La Crosse County Health and Human Services are making it easier than ever for you to take action for your mental health.  We have developed materials, curated activities, and highlighted local events to celebrate the entire month and inspire action all year long.  We know that mental health awareness is important, but real change happens when we translate that awareness into daily habits that support our mental health and well-being.

Body:

This May, we are focusing on four essential actions we can take to prioritize our mental well-being:

Getting Quality Sleep – Restorative sleep is essential for emotional balance, focus, and overall well-being.

Connecting with Others – Strong social connections improve resilience, reduce stress, and foster a sense of belonging.

Getting Outdoors – Time in nature boosts mood, reduces anxiety, and enhances mental clarity.

Being Present – Being present helps us manage stress and find joy in the moment.

Be sure to put the resources into action:

  • Take part in Outdoor Bingo
  • Check off a challenge on the May Calendar
  • Complete a resilience sheet
  • Track your sleep

Let’s turn awareness into action together. Every small step counts; together, we can create a community prioritizing mental well-being.
