Building Resilience Through Life’s Challenges
September is a time of transition and, as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a reminder that life doesn’t always go as planned. Resilience is our ability to thrive, adapt, and cope through tough and stressful times. While we can’t always control what happens around us, we can strengthen the skills and connections that help us respond to challenges. Resilience is built through intentional practices that connect us to ourselves, to others, and to healthy ways of coping—like nourishing our bodies, moving regularly, getting enough sleep, practicing mindfulness, and staying connected with family, friends, groups, and community. Finding purpose through volunteering, helping others, or being part of something meaningful can also strengthen our resilience. On September 8, 988 Day, we recognize the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline as a reminder that support is available when someone is struggling or in crisis. And when we need additional support, reaching out to a trusted person or professional is a sign of strength, not weakness. This month, be resilient by caring for yourself, connecting with others, and building the skills you need to navigate whatever comes next.
