Zandria

My passion for fitness began with my own 100-pound weight loss journey. Through that process, I discovered not only how strong I could be physically, but also how much I could grow mentally and emotionally. That transformation inspired me to become a personal trainer so I could help others realize their own potential and experience how movement can completely change their lives.

With a background in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, I understand how deeply connected the mind and body are.

Fitness isn’t just about physical change—it’s about building confidence, resilience, and self-belief. I strive to bring both knowledge and empathy to my clients, meeting them where they are, because I’ve been in their shoes myself.

Outside of the gym, I love cooking healthy meals, spending time outdoors with my husband, and continuing to learn more about fitness and wellness. I’m passionate about helping people build a lifestyle that makes them feel strong, confident, and happy—inside and out.

Key

I’ve been involved in athletics since the age of 5, competing in football, basketball, baseball, and soccer. I went on to play both college basketball and college football, experiences that shaped my discipline, leadership, and work ethic.

My athletic background naturally led me into strength and conditioning, where I developed a passion for helping others build strength, improve performance, and move with confidence. I understand what it takes to train for speed, power, endurance, and overall athletic development.

At the same time, I’m equally passionate about general fitness and overall health. Not everyone is training for a sport—many people simply want to feel better, get stronger, lose weight, gain muscle, or improve their quality of life. I believe fitness should be sustainable, empowering, and tailored to each individual.

Whether you’re an athlete looking to elevate your performance or someone focused on building strength and improving your health, I’m committed to helping you reach your goals safely and effectively.

“Everything requires discipline, hard work, and dedication, and most importantly, self-belief.”
—Serena Williams

If I had to choose one area of enjoyment, it would be health and fitness. I love exercising, and I love helping others exercise to achieve their goals. I understand that not every exercise fits everyone, and each person is unique, but I believe any form of fitness is beneficial for everyone.

The main reason I chose this job is to help others, and I plan to continue helping others for the rest of my career and life. With my background, I can help you to develop the self-discipline and determination to achieve those desired goals either in fitness or in life.

“One small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.”

I’ve been a Group Fitness Instructor since 1987. I joined the YMCA Staff in September 2003. I teach a variety of classes including Group Strength,

Pilates, Barre Blend, Yoga, Cycle, TRX, and Interval Zone. I enjoy instructing large group fitness classes, and also enjoy the smaller classes as well. I started Personal Training approximately 10 years ago, and it is so rewarding to see members strive toward a healthier lifestyle. I’m happy to be a part of their journey.

My family is still a big part of the YMCA. And my adult children carve out time to workout on their own, with friends, or attending fitness classes. I also enjoy attending other fitness instructors’ classes.

My fitness journey started as an outlet during graduate school, despite my aversion to gym class when I was younger. I am passionate about applying the same evidence-based and data-driven principles to nutrition and exercise as I do to risk determination and program evaluation, breaking down goals into manageable steps to show measurable progress.

When I'm not in a gym, I am learning new things, spending time with my husband, or trapped under the clingiest cat this side of the river.
